This is a spaced repetition flashcard app for learning Mandaic letters. Grade each card based on how well you know it, and the app will show you cards at optimal intervals.

What is Mandaic?

Mandaic is a script used to write Mandaic, an Eastern Aramaic language belonging to the Semitic language family. It has been primarily used by the Mandaean religious community from late antiquity to the present day. Mandaic has its own unique letterforms, some of which share ancestry with other Semitic scripts such as Syriac, Hebrew, and Arabic.

What is spaced repetition?

Spaced repetition is a learning technique that involves reviewing information at increasing intervals, which helps you remember facts for the long term. Rather than cramming or reviewing all material in one sitting, this method schedules reviews just before you're predicted to forget, making study sessions shorter and more effective over time. Spaced repetition is especially helpful for memorizing languages, vocabularies, and other sets of facts.

Algorithm used

This app uses a simplified version of the SM‑2 spaced repetition algorithm (SuperMemo 2), which determines when each card should next be reviewed based on how you grade it:

  • No idea (0): quick relearn interval (~1 minute), ease factor decreases.
  • Hard to remember(1): shorter interval growth (≥10 minutes), small decrease in ease.
  • Took a second (2): next interval grows by multiplying the current interval by the ease factor (minimum ≈ 1 day).
  • Too easy (3): larger interval growth and a small ease increase (minimum ≈ 3 days).

Tech used

This app is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It uses the Web Storage API to store card data locally in the browser.

This was largely vibe-coded using GPT-5 (High) to plan and Claude 4.5 Sonnet to execute, but the instructions and expectations were clearly defined for the LLM to follow. Some debugging and minor refinements used Gemini 2.5 Pro.

Because it's not a "real" app, it means that how long your progress lasts is dependent on how frequently you use the app. If you don't use the app for a while, your progress will be lost because your browser will clear the data. Although, because there's only 25 cards, this isn't a big deal.
